History
There was a lot of experiments and thoughts about what hardware to use for Dice Device. Originally it was a single purpose device with 2 dice for the game of Catan:
It was made of few basic electronic components and for displaying the results it used 2×7 LEDs in a grid. And it actually worked, it made the game more fluent. It brought us motivation to go further – make the device more universal, more easy to control, more open for extensions. The device should not be only about dice.
Present
Long story short, what we landed on is to build the Dice Device on the powerful Raspberry Pi Zero and the beautiful Hyperpixel round touchscreen display from Pimoroni.
It seems to be a very strong combo. Definitely a bit more expensive than the original approach but hey, we live only once 🙂
